20 Best Netflix Original Horror Movies - Ranked
4. Cargo
Adapted from their own 2013 short of the same name, Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke's Cargo takes the typical post-apocalyptic zombie movie formula and flips it on its head in a number of compelling ways.
For starters, the filmmakers smartly keep the particulars of this bleak world relatively ambiguous, and rather than focus on an ensemble of survivors gradually being picked off, it's centered largely around one doomed man, Andy (Martin Freeman), desperately trying to get his baby daughter to safety in a particularly treacherous stretch of the Australian outback.
Freeman gives one of the strongest performances of his career in the lead role, but what really helps take Cargo to the next level is its acute sense of Australia's own cultural past, with a large swath of the supporting cast comprised of Aboriginal people.
It won't give you the most gore for your buck, but if you want something a little headier than your average zombie flick, this is just the ticket.
