20 Best Netflix Original Horror Movies - Ranked

16. I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House

Annihilation Natalie Portman
Netflix

The second feature from Oz Perkins (son of Psycho star Anthony Perkins) isn't the film for those craving a fast-paced thrill-fest, but if you're in the mod for a more atmospheric and airy horror romp, it might do the trick.

Ruth Wilson gives a typically crackerjack performance as a live-in nurse hired to care for a demented elderly woman (Iris Blum) whose house she quickly comes to believe is haunted.

While far from original as horror films go, Perkins' patient presentation combines with the knowing performances to make this an uncommonly eerie and disquieting piece of work.

Given the obvious budgetary restraints Perkins was working with, this is an impressive effort, and it's great to see Netflix supporting such unconventional contributions to the genre.
