20 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2018 - Ranked
3. Private Life
Tamara Jenkins' first film since 2007's The Savages was well worth the wait, a deeply affecting drama about a middle-aged couple (Paul Giamatti and Kathryn Hahn) desperately trying to have a child.
If that sounds utterly milquetoast and conventional, fear not: this is an achingly human, soulful film about the pursuit of meaning in life, anchored by wonderfully understated work from both Giamatti and Hahn.
Devastatingly funny, incredibly empathetic and richly fulfilling, it's without question the best "white middle-class intellectuals in existential crisis" movie you'll see on Netflix or anywhere else this year.
