20 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2019 - Ranked

17. Six Underground

The Highway Men
Netflix

Opening car chase aside, the first hour of Six Underground is one of the most incoherent, muddled, and frankly pretty dull sections of filmmaking you'll see all year.

There are flashbacks upon flashbacks upon flashbacks, far too many confusing montages, a lot of narration... and even more flashbacks! The whole thing is unnecessarily convoluted and difficult to follow for what should've been a straightforward action script, and you're pretty much guaranteed to faze out and lose interest around 30 minutes in.

Fortunately, the second hour is a big improvement, with the titular gang of six mercenaries embarking on a daring coup operation in Turgistan.

Here, there's an action scene involving magnets and a boat that is one of the most creative sequences of director Michael Bay's career, and while it doesn't totally forgive the atrocious first hour, there's enough solid humour and strong action in the latter half of the film to make it worth a watch.
