20 Best Netflix Original Movies

Adam Sandler has given some of his best and some of his worst performances on Netflix, but 2019's crime-drama Uncut Gems might just include his greatest performance ever. The film allows the actor to really sink his teeth into a complex, flawed protagonist and let loose every aspect of his amazing but rarely-seen dramatic chops.

Sandler plays Howard Ratner, an opportunistic jeweller who gets in over his head with his loan shark brother-in-law (Eric Bogosian) and must find a way to pay off his crippling debts. Sandler is joined by an excellent if slightly underused Idina Menzel and basketball star Kevin Garnett, who stuns as a fictionalised version of himself.

Written and directed by the Safdie Brothers, Uncut Gems sports a dark tone, a fast-paced (and incredibly vulgar) script, and one of the best movie endings in recent years.
