16. The Meyerowitz Stories (New And Selected) (2017)
Adam Sandler's time as a Netflix mainstay has created some violently terrible films, including The Do-Over and The Ridiculous 6, but The Meyerowitz Stories is far from one of them. Written and directed by the brilliant Noah Baumbach, this family drama sports a slew of great performances and a bittersweet tone that sets it apart from other films in the genre.
Sandler stars as Danny Meyerowitz, a down-and-out divorcee who moves in with his successful father (Dustin Hoffman) and must contend with his father's own life struggles. The cast is rounded out by Ben Stiller and Elizabeth Marvel, who play Danny's equally conflicted siblings.
Sharp and poignant, the film is bursting with heart and dry humour, and allows Sandler in particular to really sink his teeth into a substantial dramatic role. The star of the show, however, has to be Baumbach's script, which is as moving as it is amazingly funny. Family discord has never looked so good.
