20 Best Performances In Horror Movies

14. Mia Farrow - Rosemary's Baby (1968)

Midsommar Ending Dani Smile
Paramount Pictures

Ruth Gordon may have secured an Oscar for her work in Rosemary's Baby, but the truth is that it's Mia Farrow's frantic, tragic and horrified portrayal of a woman forced to confront Satanism and her own physical trauma after she falls pregnant that steals the show and lives in mind of the modern moviegoer.

In truth, Rosemary's Baby has lost some of its shock value over the years, but Farrow's performance as Rosemary Woodhouse has managed to endure as a horror icon.

At its core, the film is a tragedy, driven forward by Farrow's horrified, moving, disturbed and pained performance. She balances the film's more obscene imagery with a genuinely affecting portrayal of grief and paranoia, growing more assured and unsettled with every passing scene as the horrors of her life come to a head.

Being scared sh*tless has never looked so good.
