20 Best Performances In Superhero Movies

9. J.K. Simmons - J. Jonah Jameson (Spider-Man)

Tobey Maguire may be the star of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, but in many ways the best performance comes from J.K. Simmons, who delivers a ripped-from-the-comics rendition of surly Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson.

Simmons was a shameless scene-stealer throughout the three movies, making the cigar-chomping weasel a paradoxically detestable and weirdly likeable figure who was a joy to behold every time he showed up.

The voice, the clothing, the hair and his casting opposite Maguire: it all added up to pure screen magic.

Best Moment: The glorious, heavily-memed exchange from Spider-Man 2 where Jameson laughs in Peter Parker's face for asking to be paid in advance.
