Although some critics were a bit sniffy about the prequel which charts Mike and Sulley's days at college, the film was a massive success and bested the original (even with inflation taken into account). And why not? Far from being a desperate cash-in the team, led by first-time director Dan Scanlon, had produced not only a realistic representation of college life, but told an emotional story that stood on its own.
