Best: Ex Machina (2015) Despite the possibility that her AI robot could have been a creepy, lifeless doll, Vikanders Ava is a disquieting presence all the way through the film, owing a lot to Star Trek's Data in her inquisitiveness, but to herself in her transitions to sensuality, abruptness and manipulation. She's the new Species, brilliantly inhuman with an authentically constructed idea of feminity whose "realness" at times is chillingly convincing. This was a star-making performance in a career-making year for the actor, and if she ever outdoes the performance at all it will take some doing. Worst: Seventh Son (2015) 2015 was an incredibly busy year for Vikander, so it's inevitable that she would struggle to make hits every time. Unfortunately, her two missteps came in the shape of the God-awful Burnt and the almost unwatchable Seventh Son. The latter is the worst of her career so far, as her performance is utterly swallowed up by the torrent of ham sent out by Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. It's a dangerously idiotic film that says everything about how much damage Hollywood can do with brilliant individual elements.
