20 Best & Worst Movies From 2016 Oscar Nominees

18. Eddie Redmayne

Best: The Theory Of Everything (2014) Given that it could have easily been dismissed as a manipulative gimmick, Redmayne's Oscar-winning performance as Professor Steven Hawking was beautiful, spell-binding and completely devastating, and it deserved to win every accolade that came its way. It was an almost spiritually poignant performance, typified by the actor's eyes (which swung wildly from mischief to emotion) and it remains a joy to watch. Worst: Jupiter Ascending (2015) God help anyone who chooses to act in a Wachowskis film: the formerly gifted directing duo have lost all sense of restraint, creating monstrously over-blown epics that encourage their actors to over-act to ridiculous levels. The result, for Redmayne, was a monstrous pantomime villain straight from the Malcolm MacDowell Book Of Acting, and frankly it stunk of ham.
