20 Best & Worst Movies From 2019 Oscar Nominees

1. Yalitza Aparicio

Roma Film
Netflix

Best: Roma (2018)

The fact that Yalitza Aparicio is even in Roma is astounding enough, but her subsequent excellence - even when improvising and working towards Alfonso Cuaron's deeply personal story - and the fact that she has picked up an Oscar nomination for it are even more so.

This is, after all, her first ever film performance. She is a teacher by trade, found after Cuaron exhaustively scoured the country to find his Cleo (based on a domestic worker who raised him) and though she wants to act more confesses she needs acting lessons. All of that makes how great she is in Roma all the more stunning.

Worst: None

Roma was Aparicio's film debut, incredibly, and there's no way anyone in their right mind would class it as the Worst of anything, regardless of it being the only option here.
