Best: Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Though he's great in A Star Is Born, it was Bradley Cooper's first portrait of mental illness that still stands as his best performance. His turn as Jackson Main depends a little too much on an (admittedly spot on) impersonation of Sam Elliott, even with how impressive his spiral is.

In Silver Linings Playbook, he is more complex, his character has more of an arc and his chemistry with Jennifer Lawrence is much better.

Worst: All About Steve (2009)

Bradley Cooper should not have made All About Steve. Sandra Bullock should not have made All About Steve. Nobody should, frankly, because it's just about unwatchable and feels deeply offensive next to the likes of Silver Linings... and A Star Is Born. And not just because it's so bloody terrible.
