20 Biggest Movies Of 2016: What Do We Already Know?
19. The BFG
Release Date: July 1, 2016. Who's Involved: Steven Spielberg directs from Melissa Mathison's (E.T.) script, which of course, adapts Roald Dahl's classic children's novel. Tony Award winner Mark Rylance plays the BFG, while protagonist Sophie will be played by young unknown Ruby Barnhill. What's The Story?: One night, young Sophie comes across the BFG (Big Friendly Giant), who takes her to his home in Giant Country as the pair conspires to rid the world of all the malevolent giants of the land. Will It Be Any Good?: Spielberg is an excellent choice for this sort of material, and it should lend itself pretty damn well to a glossy, big-budget adaptation. This could be the director's best family film in years and years.
