20 Biggest Movies Of 2016: What Do We Already Know?
17. Suicide Squad
Release Date: August 5, 2016. Who's Involved: David Ayer (Training Day, Fury) writes and directs, while the cast includes Jared Leto (The Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Will Smith (Deadshot), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller). After Tom Hardy departed the project, the role of Rick Flagg remains up for grabs (with Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal apparently up for the part). Rumours persist that Jesse Eisenberg may reprise his Lex Luthor role from Batman v Superman, while Joe Manganiello may play Deathstroke. What's The Story?: The aforementioned team of supervillains are offered commuted prison sentences if they team up to take on a dangerous mission for the U.S. government. Will It Be Any Good?: Ayer is a fine pick for director, and the cast isn't half bad either (Jai Courtney notwithstanding), but it could simply be too much of a muchness for a movie, and may end up cluttered and overstuffed. It all comes down to the script, but one thing's for sure: with Ayer at the helm, the banter should be top notch.
