8. John Connor Becomes A Terminator - Terminator Genisys
Granted, this one was stupidly given away in the movie's trailers months before release, but yes, it turns out that John Connor (Jason Clarke) is attacked in 2029 by a Terminator (Matt Smith) and turned into a man-machine T-3000 hybrid. When Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) arrive in 2017, they are soon rescued by John, but moments later John is shot by the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), and as he recovers, his nanomachine-like composition is revealed. It's a cool idea in theory, certainly a daring one to help reinvent the series, but the execution was off from the get-go, and it was a terrible idea giving this twist away for free. It doesn't happen until like an hour into the movie, and the film still acts like we have no idea it's going to happen, pretending that 2017 John is a good guy for like 10 minutes before revealing the truth. Jason Clarke did a fine job with what he had, but overall this was more weird than actually satisfying.
