4. The Clone Twist - Polite Society

Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves Chris Pine

Polite Society was marketed as a martial arts comedy centered around a British-Pakistani teenager, Ria (Priya Kansara), who attempts to rescue her older sister Lena (Ritu Arya) from settling for an arranged marriage and abandoning her dreams.

Yet just past the movie's mid-point, it takes a most unexpected genre shift indeed, when it's revealed that Lena's soon-to-be mother-in-law, Raheela (Nimra Bucha), has a secret lab in her mansion.

More to the point, Raheela intends to impregnate Lena with a clone of herself. Yup.

It's certainly a twist that feels like it belongs in an entirely different movie - say, Get Out - compared to the more Edgar Wright-esque Brit action-comedy that Polite Society was sold as. It gets plenty of points for effed-up creativity, though.
