Twelve Monkeys technically a remake of Chris Markers 1962 short film La Jetee is a brilliantly subversive movie that really deserves your attention, if you havent seen it yet. Terry Gilliams visual panache meets stellar unstable performances from Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt here, making for a mind-warping cinematic treat.
Willis plays Cole, a prisoner who lives in the year 2027, several years after a deadly virus sent the majority of mankind to their death in 1996. He is sent back in time to try and stop the Army of the Twelve Monkeys, who are believed to be the source of the virus.
An unpredictable narrative unspools from there, with various characters' allegiances and sanities questioned over the course of the movie. Come the end, youll be scratching your head for a fair few hours.
