There could only be one winner, and thats David Lynchs debut feature film Eraserhead. The films eerie black and white style, combined with Lynchs unique imagination and Jack Nances terrifically troubled performance make this an unforgettable and unsolvable riddle of a movie.
Eraserhead sees Nances Henry caring for his deformed child in a desolate industrialised world. The film is full of oozing gooey substances, food which spasms around the plate, and other dark, unsettling, and often subversively sexual imagery. Its like a nightmare, without any chance of waking up until the credits roll. And by that point, youll have Eraserheads disturbing scenes ingrained in your memory permanently.
The soundscape of the film is unique, as well, constantly flaring up with unnerving industrial sounds and offering a constant background hum that keeps you from relaxing in any way. Its the perfect blend of visuals, audio and story that messes with you more and more every time you re-watch it. If you havent seen it already, you really should.
