20 Comedy Movies You Must See Before You Die
7. Dumb And Dumber (1994)
Given how influential the Farrelly Brothers were within the realms of comedy throughout the '90s and the early 2000s - and given Jim Carrey's standing as one of the most popular comedy actors in the world - it seems silly not to include Dumb and Dumb somewhere on this list. Stupid as the movie is (and it must be noted that it's often billed as the ultimate "moron comedy,") there's no denying that even the flick's dumbest jokes have been well-thought out in all their idiocy.
As a hodgepodge of stupidly funny scenes following stupidly funny scenes, this film has few equals. And so the very haphazardly-designed plot inherent to Dumb and Dumber concerns a road trip between brainless best friends Lloyd (Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels), who find themselves in Aspen on the trail of a beautiful woman and as targets in a botched ransom.
It's certainly not big or clever, but it's definitely funny - the definitive example of a comedy that you can go back to time and time again like the best comfort foods. What's more, Harry and Lloyd are genuinely likeable souls - revisiting them is like saying hey to very old (and very stupid) friends.
