Faced with losing the option on The Fantastic Four unless a movie version began shooting on a set date, Constantin Film (who later produced the Resident Evil franchise) turned to Roger Corman, whose company took a script budgeted at $40 million and ground out a feature that cost $1.98 million.
If you don’t recall seeing the film on video shelves, that’s because it was never meant to be released, only to fulfil an obligation. Given the soap opera-level acting and laughably cheap effects, that probably wasn’t a bad idea, but if you’re curious enough to want to see Reed Richards’s elasticity achieved via forced perspective shots, there are numerous bootleg copies available online.
