20 Comic Book Films You Should Die Before You See

18. Supergirl

Constantine Hell
TriStar Pictures

If the plot of this bungled Superman spin-off seems familiar, that’s because writer David Odell later reused the basics (characters chase a mysterious object that falls into evil hands) in his screenplay for Masters Of The Universe, a film that at least had the virtue of being funny without meaning to.

All Supergirl does is waste a good cast in a dull and heavy-handed movie, but at least Faye Dunaway seems to be having a good time, overplaying to her heart’s content as a villainess who attempts to take over the world with the alien artefact that just landed in her cheese dip.

That’s more than you can say for Peter Cook and Peter O’Toole, who look miserable throughout.
