Captain America: Civil War is where the MCU really started to push itself, both in terms of scale and story. Taking inspiration from one of Marvel's most beloved and iconic storylines, the epic threequel splits the Avengers in two and brings everyone's favourite superheroes to blows.
Finding a way to balance the ongoing developments of almost every previous MCU film whilst introducing new characters such as Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Baron Zemo to the mix, Civil War is at once an intimate drama and a heartbreaking mystery that culminates in a fight for the ages.
By removing the ongoing Thanos arc from the equation and instead focussing on the heroes' fraught relationships, the film provides - even some six years later - some of the franchise's most powerful character moments.
In many ways, the MCU has never been as confident and challenging as it was here.
