20 Coming-Of-Age Movies That Are Totally Flawless
16. Superbad (2007)
There are different extremes in the coming-of-age genre. On one side, you've got the heavy, educational dramas; on the other, you'll find Superbad.
The ludicrously silly, quotable stoner comedy follows three high schoolers (Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse) who set out to have a great night before moving away to college, only for everything to go horribly and hilariously wrong.
Superbad uses its three leads to create a brilliantly over-the-top portrait of teenage outsiders trying to make something of themselves, but under the jokes, the film's also a surprisingly affecting look at friendship in the wake of momentous change.
It'll always be remembered for the dialogue ("I am McLovin'!"), but there's more to it than meets the eye.
