Bo Burnham's truly spotless comedy-drama Eighth Grade offers perhaps the most empathetic portrayal of anxiety and the flaws of social media you'll ever watch.

The film follows inspirational middle school vlogger Kayla (Elsie Fisher), an introverted soul whose popular self-help videos clash with her struggles with social media addiction and acute anxiety.

A deeply personal account from writer-director Bo Burnham, Eighth Grade's greatest strength is its heartbreaking star, and its astute assessments of growing up in such a technology-obsessed society that rarely seems to care about its downsides.

It's not all doom and gloom, though: It also comes complete with a touching father-daughter relationship, and counters its more emotional twists with sweet reminders of how, in the end, everything will be okay.
