20 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Transformers Franchise
12. They're Too. Damn. Long.
Yes, it's a lame complaint to say that a movie sucks because it's too long: it can often be a lazy way to say "I didn't like the film" without really explaining why, but amid all the other complaints about the series in this article, it's one of the most glaring issues. Michael Bay and the screenwriters are all in sore need of editors who won't indulge their various whims, allowing the movies to deliver a tight, 2-hour action movie premise that gets going in around 15-20 minutes and then doesn't let up until the finish line. As was particularly apparent in the exhaustingly long, 165-minute Age of Extinction, kicking the plot off takes far too long in these movies, there are several lengthy gaps without any action (the action-free mid-section of Revenge of the Fallen is particularly egregious in this regard) and the oppressive length only wears audiences down, making a potentially fun, silly experience into one that bashes viewers over the head with its myriad issues. Cut down on the lame "character development", focus the action more, steamline the plot and these movies would instantly be much more enjoyable. Otherwise, do the audiences who contribute to the billion-dollar grosses of these movies really want a three-hour Transformers 5?
