19. Young Sean - Birth (2004)

cameron bright This 2004 offering flirts with the idea of reincarnation. Anna is widowed by the death of her husband Sean. Ten years later she is at her engagement party to Joseph, a young boy observes the celebrations. At a party thrown for Anna's mother, the same child approaches Anna, tells her he is the reincarnation of her dead husband and also warns her not to marry Joseph. After consultation with Joseph, the betrothed pair go to young Sean's parents and tell him to leave them alone. Sean refuses to recant his stance and collapses, crying, into his dad's arms.. Anna meets Sean in the exact spot her husband died in Central Park. Under questioning, Sean reveals intimate details of Anna's life with her dead husband. Anna grows close to young Sean to the disapproval of her fiance and family. But her bubble is burst when it is revealed that Sean got all of his information from her dead husband's love letters to his mistress Clara - her dead Husband's brother's wife. Anna tells Sean they will elope when he is older. Sean says he cannot be the reincarnation of her dead husband because he loves her. Joseph and Anna get married on the beach and Sean writes Anna a long letter wondering why he thought he was the reincarnation of her dead husband. Nicole Kidman does a fine job with the role of Anna - conveying a wide range of demanding emotions. The kid Sean is creepy but his role is not really elaborated on. His actions and behaviour are freaky but the kid has no personality. This is probably due to the fact that it is Anna's film and the boy is only a tool to coax more complex emotions out of the leading actress. Had the boy's psychopathology been more fleshed out, it may have resulted in a more interesting film and a more creepy kid.
