20 Most Critically Reviled Films Of 2014

9. A New York Winter's Tale

13% - 135 Reviews Released in the US as A Winter's Tale, the UK distributors chose not to sully the name of Shakespeare's play by associating with this awful, sentimental claptrap of an €œallegorical supernatural fable€, as Wikipedia hilariously describes it. Colin Farrell plays an immortal thief raised and then chased by Russel Crowe as a demon gangster. Now, all of that sounds like it should be awesome, but it most certainly isn't. Neither is Will Smith's surprise appearance at the end as the Devil. Like the actual Devil. Long-time middling screenwriter Akiva Goldsman made his directorial debut with this film. He shouldn't have bothered. Choice review quote: €œWinter's Tale is preposterous twaddle. Use it as a date movie only if you don't love the one you're with.€ (Rolling Stone)
