20 Most Depressing Film Endings Since 2000

16. Sinister (2012)

The Ending €“ At last realising that each of the families€™ respective children are their killers Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) is just about to take action when he feels himself becoming drowsy. Realising too late that his young daughter €“ under Bughuul€™s thrall €“ has drugged his coffee, Ellison slumps down unconscious. He floats in and out of consciousness to find himself next to his wife and son, the three of them bound and gagged. Little Ashley approaches and promises that she will make him famous again before murdering the family with an awkwardly large axe. She uses the copious amounts of blood to paint animals on the walls of the family home. Depressing Because €“ Horror films where everyone dies are sombre occasions at the best of times, but seeing a small child murder her beloved family really is a mood-killer. The final shot showing the box of tapes sitting in the family€™s attic announces that the work of Bughuul far from finished and the next luckless tenants of the house will meet a similar fate. A Silver Lining? Baghuul can only get you through your kids, so as long as you€™re yet to spread your seed he can€™t touch you. Score!
