You have to at least admire director Ang Lee for attempting to do something a bit different with his big screen rendition of the Hulk, given his dedication to trying to explore the inner torment of his Bruce Banner (played here by Eric Bana). What can be said, however, is that Lee might have verged too far into the Hulk's existential crisis, leaving little room for the sort of explosive battles that fans of the Incredible Hulk ultimately wanted to see. So the biggest problem here comes down to the fact that Lee spends way too much time trying to probe Bruce Banner's inner psych, and as a result the Hulk is a bit of bore. There are a few action sequences, but even those linger on the questionable side of things, given that they mostly depict the Hulk bouncing around the desert like a rubber ball. Lee tried to make two movies at once here - the result is a strange hybrid that just doesn't work.
