20 Disaster Movies You Must See Before You Die

15. The Perfect Storm

If considerably smaller scale than most of the movies on the list, The Perfect Storm is no less of a disaster film, following a commercial fishing vessel which gets caught in the Perfect Storm of 1991, which caused $200 million in damage and claimed 13 lives.

That may not sound like much relatively speaking, but director Wolfgang Petersen sure knows how to mine the terror of a small group of fishermen holding on for dear life against Mother Nature.

The spectacularly staged set-pieces are absolutely terrifying, and the cast - including George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane, William Fichtner, Karen Allen, Bob Gunton, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and John C. Reilly - make this one of the most impressively star-studded disaster films.
