6. Good Will Hunting
Participant(s): Gus Van Sant, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck The film about an unrecognised genius in South Boston who thanks to the therapy of Robin Williams is able to nurture his mathematical gift and surprise all those who think hes just a punk 20-year-old has likely been seen by most of those reading. However, all new insight can be gained about the 1997 film with the accompanying commentary which features director Gus Van Sant and actor-writers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Primarily the commentary gives some superb insight into the writing process of Damon and Affleck which would be extremely interesting for any aspiring screenwriters. Affleck has obviously nurtured this talent, progressing from his writing debut with Good Will Hunting to pen Gone Baby Gone and The Town. The commentary is also brimming with hilarious anecdotes. Damon reveals how Williams scenes about his character's wife's little idiosyncrasies were ad-libbed and proved so unexpectedly funny that the cameraman was unable to prevent silent laughter this can be seen in the scenes as the camera can be seen moving up and down very slightly.
