After a woeful start in Herbology class after collapsing from the screech of a baby Mandrake, the green-fingered wizard actually grows up to become a phenomenal Herbologist. Not only did he attain the much-coveted grade of €˜Outstanding€™ in his O.W.L exam for the subject but €“ even more impressively €“ after the events depicted in the film Neville eventually becomes Hogwarts€™ professor of Herbology.

Intriguingly the Longbottom surname found its genesis in J.R.R Tolkien€™s Lord of the Rings trilogy. In Tolkien€™s richly detailed Middle Earth, Longbottom is a region of the Shire responsible for growing the best pipe-weed money can buy. This cannot be dismissed as a coincidence €“ J.K Rowling is known for filling her writing with Easter Eggs like this.
