20 Easter Eggs In Spider-Man Films You Didn't Notice

13. Peter References Superman & Shazam (Spider-Man)

One of Spider-Man's more amusing scenes involves Peter trying to get to grips with his organic webbing for the first time. After spotting a crane to fire it onto, he shouts phrases such as "Go, web!", "Fly!", "Up, up and away, web!", "Shazam!", "Go!", and "Go, web, go!" in an attempt to make the webbing shoot out, before finally figuring out the wrist action which activates it. Two of these quotes are clear references to other comic book characters, ones from DC Comics, no less: firstly, "Up, up and away" is a classic line spoken by Superman in a number of different interpretations of the character, especially radio, to imply to the audience that Superman was about to start flying. Secondly, and much more obviously, is "Shazam!", which references, you guessed it, Shazam, also known as Captain Marvel (despite being a DC character). What's more, these lines were improvised by Tobey Maguire and not originally part of the scene.
