20 Most Epic Character Introductions In Movies
11. Frank - Once Upon A Time In The West (1968)
Henry Fonda is unquestionably one of the greatest actors to ever grace a cinema screen, but his only full-blown villainous role was in Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti Western. Epic in every sense of the word, Once Upon A Time In The West is one of the greatest movies ever made, and the reveal of Fonda as hired killer Frank is one of the most iconic moments in a movie full of them.
Sent to intimidate landowner Brett McBain by rail tycoon Morton, Frank and his posse instead take it upon themselves to slaughter the entire innocent family and pin the crime on notorious bandit Cheyenne. Shots ring out from the distance, leaving the McBain's youngest son to survey the carnage. The gunmen ominously come into view to the sound of Ennio Morricone's iconic score, before the camera pans round to Fonda's piercing blue eyes. Without uttering a single word, we know that Frank is not a man to be messed with. A hired hand more than willing to do his boss' dirty work, the character has no qualms gunning down innocents. The look on Fonda's face is emotionless yet inherently malevolent, and serves as a fittingly epic introduction to one of the Western genre's greatest villains.
