In Antoine Fuquas latest directorial effort, Denzel Washington plays Robert McCall, a seemingly peaceful man living a quiet life. He later meets a young prostitute named Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz) and the two strike up a friendship. Robert then learns that Teri has been viciously beaten by her pimp and his gaggle of Russian gangsters. It turns out McCall is a former CIA Special Forces agent who decides he cant sit idly by and allow such injustice. Though it does indeed only loosely resemble the television source material, this movie is not without its appeal. This is mostly due to the presence of Washington, a magnetic actor no matter what hes doing in whatever movie hes in. The greatest moment of the film is the climax, which sees McCall taking on a horde of bad guys at his place of employment; a Home Depot-like superstore. His weapons of choice to dispatch his victims are as brutal as they are varied; he uses everything from high-tensile barbed wire, a pole saw, and a power drill before he takes down the final bad guy with a high-powered nail gun. Rejoice: Hollywood has finally made an R-rated answer to Home Alone.
