The Moment: Orphaned girl Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) catches her first glimpse of the Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance) one fateful night, who then takes her to his homestead, Giant Country.

Why It Will Define 2016: Because this is the first live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's book, and how The BFG is first introduced to audiences will pretty much set the tone for the rest of the movie.

There's little doubt that Steven Spielberg will sprinkle his usual brand of movie magic, while recent Oscar-winner Rylance is pretty much a pitch-perfect choice for the over-sized title character.

If this isn't a deeply memorable moment, then Spielberg has instantly put a foot wrong, and it's hard to believe he'd do that with material so well-suited to his sensibilities.
