20 Essential Movie Performances That Will Define 2017

12. Anthony Hopkins - Sir Edmund Burton (Transformers: The Last Knight)

The Role: Hopkins will play an astronomer and historian by the name of Sir Edmund Burton, who for some reason is aware of the Transformers' ancient history on Earth, and will almost certainly give Mark Wahlberg a giant exposition dump at some point.

Why It'll Define 2017: The idea of Sir Anthony freaking Hopkins playing a supporting role in a Transformers movie is, honestly, totally hilarious, and even if it ends up being a fairly dull walk-on part, the sheer surreal quality of the legendary thespian appearing in a Michael Bay film will be enough to make this one of the year's most unforgettable performances.

Going by set footage of Hopkins working on the movie, it sure looks like he had a lot of fun, and hopefully some of that joy might transpire through to the end product.
