The Role: Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) father, Ego is a cosmic entity who tracks Peter down and introduces him to his half-sister Mantis (Pom Klementieff), though beyond that, his motives are basically unknown.

Why It'll Define 2017: Kurt Russell playing Star-Lord's dad is an undeniable masterstroke of casting and should bring plenty of grizzled fun to what's already set to be an insanely entertaining movie.

Russell is perfect for the part, and while it's entirely possible his role is relatively small, it seems much more likely that he could end up being the movie's villain, even transforming into his gigantic planetary form from the comics.

Either way, expect Russell's work here to be on everyone's lips coming away from Vol. 2, because there's no way James Gunn doesn't take delicious advantage of casting such a legendary, much-loved actor in a role like this.
