The Role: General Organa will be left mourning the death of her beloved Han Solo (Harrison Ford) throughout The last Jedi, and will surely be reunited with her long-exiled brother Luke (Mark Hamill).

Why It'll Define 2017: Well, this one's really going to sting. Carrie Fisher tragically died last December, and though she'd long finished filming her role for The Last Jedi, it leaves Rian Johnson and Disney in an awkward position for how to deal with Leia's death.

It seems likely that her role in Episode VIII will be largely untouched, but it's going to be an incredibly bittersweet experience for fans the world over, as they give Leia her final cinematic farewell.

With Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy recently confirming that Fisher won't appear in Episode IX, this is it for both the actress and the character. Bring tissues.
