20 Fails That Nearly Killed The Marvel Film Universe

17. A New Standalone Hulk Movie

After the massive success of Mark Ruffalo's incredible portrayal of Bruce Banner aka The Hulk in The Avengers, rumours have persisted that Marvel Studios have been considering another standalone Hulk movie. Why It Would've Ruined The MCU: For some reason, despite being probably the best-known character in the MCU, Hulk movies just don't seem to do that well at the box office. 2003's Ang Lee-directed Hulk was a box office bomb, and 2008's The Incredible Hulk didn't really fare any better either. Given that the 2008 Hulk movie was actually pretty good, this proved quite the surprise, but perhaps audiences were simply burned by Lee's disappointing take. Introducing The Hulk to audiences once again in The Avengers was a super-smart move, as it completely minimised risk, and by making him part of an ensemble, audiences weren't constantly waiting for the big green guy to show up. He managed to steal the show, and while as a result a new Hulk movie would surely be much more successful than the previous two, he's a character best kept to small doses: over-exposure will quickly kill our love for the character. Another two-hour Hulk movie, even with Ruffalo in the role, just isn't something we're interested in. Keep him to small parts in The Avengers movies, and that's enough to satisfy our Hulk fill.
