20 Fails That Nearly Killed The Marvel Film Universe
13. Ant-Man & Wasp Were Originally In The Avengers
Joss Whedon's The Avengers was originally even more epic and star-studded than it ended up being: Whedon stated that it was to originally also feature the characters of Ant-Man and Wasp, who are of course part of the comic book Avenger line-up. Why were they cut? Because the script just had too many characters. Why It Would've Ruined The MCU: Joss Whedon's fine creative instincts again proved themselves correct, because it's easy to imagine the movie simply being too cluttered with two more major comic book characters being thrown into the mix. Considering the character development and explanation that especially needs to go into making Ant-Man work, there simply wouldn't be enough time to do these characters justice. Whereas audiences were already hugely familiar with The Hulk, and his origin could be very quickly established, Ant-Man and Wasp are pretty much unknown to most audiences, and would have probably eaten up far too much screen time in an already lengthy film. In short, Whedon made the right call.
