20 Fails That Nearly Killed The Marvel Film Universe
12. Sam Worthington & Will Smith Were Rumoured For Captain America
After Sam Worthington appeared on an MTV show wearing a Captain America shirt, the web went nuts as the theory did the rounds that this must mean he was going to be playing Captain America. Why else, other than being a fan of the material, could you possibly want to wear a cool shirt on TV, right? The other, far more credible rumour that did the rounds was that Will Smith had been offered the part of Steve Rogers. Why It Would've Ruined The MCU: Worthington's an easy one. For starters, he's not even American, and secondly, he's not a particularly good actor: it's hard to imagine him pulling off the drama even if he'd probably handle the action fine. Still, given how often his Aussie accent leaks into his attempt at an American accent in most of his movies, this could've been disastrous. Smith, on the other hand, isn't a bad choice per se, though considering that most people conceive of Captain America as being white-skinned (though there has been a black Captain America), it's possible he would've been rejected by the purists. In short, Chris Evans was a safe, solid choice, and it's easy to see why Marvel went for him in the end.
