20 Fantastic Blimps, Balloons, And Dirigibles In Movies
1. Up (2009)
No list of balloon, blimp, and dirigible movies worth anything would leave off one of the most touching, fun, beautifully rendered animated films of the modern age. Up is the story of lonely widowed Carl, alone and aimless since the loss of his wife.
When his home is threatened with destruction to build a skyscraper, Carl remembers a promise he made to his wife to someday visit a place called Paradise Falls. He turns his entire house into a makeshift airship by attaching thousands of balloons to it and floating off to fulfill that promise.
A loveably grumpy performance from Ed Asner, some hilarious supporting performances, and some of the most vivid colors in animation to date undoubtedly make this the greatest use of balloons, blimps, or dirigibles in the annals of film history.
