Colin Trevorrow has had a rather bizarre career: his first feature was a peculiar indie film called Safety Not Guaranteed, starring Mark Duplass and Aubrey Plaza. From there, against all odds, he made the jump directly into the world of big-budget blockbusters. Trevorrow was discovered by producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall during their extensive search for a director for 2015s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Impressed with his work on Safety Not Guaranteed, they arranged for a meeting between Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg to discuss a sequel to Jurassic Park. He was hired, and Jurassic World became the fourth highest-grossing film of all time. Obviously impressed, Disney decided to hire Trevorrow to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, slated for release sometime in 2019. Before then, however, Colin Trevorrow will be returning to his indie roots with 2016s The Book of Henry. I suppose we can consider it a way for the director to show us what he can do on a small scale before tackling what must surely be one of the biggest movie productions of all time.
