20 Film Franchises That Were Cancelled After One Movie

5. Power Rangers

Lionsgate

Because of how cheesy and silly Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is, one would assume it would become a forgotten fad after a few years. But after spawning over a dozen tv shows, it was clear fans still wanted to see more of the heroes long after the original show ended.

And in 2017, Lionsgate seized the film rights for the hot property, hoping to turn Saban's most iconic series into the next big franchise. Teaming up with the show's creator, Haim Saban, the studio compiled detailed plans for at least six movies.

Sadly, Power Rangers tanked in theatres. But since it made a ton of money in rentals and merchandise, the studio hoped the series would maintain its course. After Saban sold the film rights to Paramount, however, Lionsgate's supposed franchise was finished.
