20 Film Franchises That Were Cancelled After One Movie

3. King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

The Excalibur-wielding British leader, King Arthur, has been one of most famous legendary characters for centuries. There are so many stories about the mythical hero, it's surprising no one tried to make a franchise about him until 2017.

But when Warner Bros green-lit King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, they planned out six sequels, which would gradually introduce many Arthurian characters including Guinevere, Galahad, Lancelot, and of course, Merlin. The studio thought their picture was such a sure thing, they pumped a ridiculous $175 million into the budget and spent another $100 million on marketing.

The film did so badly at the box office, it ended up costing the studio $150 million, abandoning any chance of a sequel.
