20 Film Franchises That Were Cancelled After One Movie
2. The Last Airbender
Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't just one of the best animated series; it is one of the greatest and most celebrated tv shows of all time. So, when Paramount green-lit a live-action adaptation of a proposed trilogy, fans were beyond thrilled.
Unfortunately, the film was a disaster from beginning to end. It had atrocious special effects, bland action, embarrassing dialogue, and dreadful performances. Worst of all, the spirit of the anime was completely absent from the film (mainly because the director, M. Night Shyamalan, had never seen the cartoon!)
Although the ending unsubtly sets up a sequel, nobody was interested in seeing more. When a Netflix reboot was announced several years later, Shyamalan's sequel was officially cancelled. Unfortunately, the Netflix version was abandoned soon after due to creative differences. As a result, fans are still waiting to see a single Avatar: The Last Airbender film adaptation that does justice to the original show.
