Based on Colm Tóibín's novel of the same name, Best Picture nominee Brooklyn tells the story of a young Irish woman's immigration to Brooklyn during the early 1950s. Upon arrival she falls into a whirlwind romance that leads to her having to make a choice between her old home and her new one.

The film stars Saoirse Ronan and Emory Cohen alongside Potter trio Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley), Jim Broadbent (Horace Slughorn) and Julie Walters (Molly Weasley). While supporting actors all on this occasion, all three are chip in with watchable and believable performances in this rich and touching period drama, Gleeson in particular as eligible and well-off bachelor Jim Farrell.

Star Ronan was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for her turn as Ellis Lacey but lost out to Brie Larson just as the film itself did to Spotlight in the Best Picture category, however John Crowley's movie was widely considered one of the best of the year and has a near perfect 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
