Ghostbusters is everything you’d expect from its title. Three professors find themselves out of work and after studying the supernatural, they set up a ghost removal service. With the backdrop of New York against the action, we are given some electrifying scenes of…well, ghostbusting.

But it is more than just a generic action movie. There’s a flavour of science fiction because of the awesome fighting gadgets used by the team, and the movie gets very creative with the ghosts present in the story. Rather than typical floating white sheets, they all vary in appearance and ability, from Slimer to the Stay Puft man.

However, it’s the leading men that truly make the picture great. Rather than a generic youthful ensemble, the heroes are comprised of older men who are sarcastic and witty. Bill Murray in particular steals the show as the wise cracking Peter Venkman. Funny, exciting, multi-genred and even featuring a now-legendary 1980s theme song to boot, Ghostbusters has a little bit of everything.
